Well the holiday weekend is over, and nothing could be sadder then going back to work after partying all weekend! LOL. Nah, work is fine. But the LA/Hollywood trip was alot of fun even if more people didn’t go.
Friday night Brandon and I decided to skip going to Krave so we could leave early Saturday. In retrospect this seems like a bit of a mistake, since it looks like people had some fun dressing up as zombies. But we wanted to leave early and clubbing would have made that hard. Oh well.
Our leaving early ended up being only 8am, which still would have been rough considering we club till 4am or later most nights. After loading the car and getting gas, it was 8:30 before we were on the 15. We made good time though, and after a quick stop for food and gas in Barstow, we were at the hotel before noon.
Of course check in isn’t until 2, so we cruised down to one of the malls on Hollywood blvd. We walked around some and stopped in their giant Hot Topic. *shrug* It was something to kill time. It was still early so we ended up heading to a Jamba Juice and cruising down Melrose looking for Shrine. I think we lucked out because we parked in one of those shitty Mexican valet lots you see everywhere in LA…with the car full of our stuff, including laptops. Nothing was stolen. Brandon ended up finding some shirt thing at Shrine that he bought. We had killed enough time so we headed back to the hotel and checked in.
We ended up getting the room we had the first time we stayed at this place, and it still had the weird leaky gas smell. Odd. We fiddled on the internet and killed some time before heading out to drive around some more and get dinner. We found another little mall/promenade thing that had a huge Best Buy and Target, as well as a few restaurants and smaller places. It was decided we would try Zeke’s Smokehouse. The setup was kind of weird, kind of that hybrid fastfood/sit down type of place. It was more sit down then fast food though and god damn if that food wasn’t good. That was the best bbq pork I’ve ever had. After filling our bellies we went back to the hotel to relax a bit before getting ready for Bar Sinister. We caught part of Back to the Future and couldn’t help but laughing at every scene they used in Brokeback to the Future.
When we were heading out, we exited our room at the same time as these 2 goth whores exited theres. They had this blank look in their eyes like their heads were empty. Its a shame they looked pretty haggered. They otherwise might have been hot. It was raining out, which kind of sucked. But we weren’t really outside enough for it to be a problem. That lot next to Bar Sinister seems to be getting more expensive. I could have swore it was like $5 the first time we went. It was $8 the last trip. This time it was $10. I need to own a parking lot in LA.
Bar Sinister was pretty fun, though not as good as normal. The setlist was kind of blah and the dance floor too crowded. Outside they had some jazz guy playing, but people didn’t seem to mind. Inside there were some trannies staring Brandon down. Thankfully he didn’t take any to the bathroom. Brandon and I just walked around, drank, and danced a bit. Like I said, pretty fun but not as great as normal. When we left the hotdog man was nowhere to be found, so we had to settle for Scooby’s. That place was packed. Lots of hotdog craving drunks. So we had ours and left. Of course in the parking lot is now the good hotdog man. So we got more. Scooby’s doesn’t have shit on this guy. I want to buy him and have him stay in Vegas. He can’t be that expensive. When we finally got back to the hotel, of course the parking lot was full. This lead us to find their super secret hidden parking lot that is down a side street and actually sits directly behind the hotel. Its a bitch to get into, but it at least has spaces. The next morning when we left I was shocked Brandon made it in without crashing.
When Sunday morning rolled around we were at a loss of what to do. We debated going to the movies or finding more goth stores to go to. The Lip Service store isn’t a store at all, just their warehouse so we started leaning towards a movie. We ended up holding off the decision and got some food at Topz. The goth store was chosen. The place we went to, Ipso Facto, was in Fullerton. With our limited knowlege of LA we headed out that way.
Its a good 45 minute drive or so because of the shitty traffic, and then we realized we had been out that way before when we went to Knotts Berry Farm. After driving up and down the street we finally found the store tucked away in a little strip of stores. This place was way better then Shrine. They had quite a bit of shit and I actually ended up buying some VNV t-shirts and a Lip Service shirt to wear at the club. I hate how expensive goth clothing is. Brandon found some leather trench coat that he bought, as well as some t-shirts. We ended up talking to the store people for awhile. I guess everyone is gearing up for that clothing convention in Vegas. So we talked to them about the clubs in Vegas and they told us a bit about the LA clubs. Apparently the one guy was from Vegas and moved about 5 years ago. The girl who was there is going to check out Ressurrection on Thursday, but has to go back Friday so she cant check out Krave.
The drive back seemed slower, but it wasn’t too bad. We stopped at the hotel to drop off our shit, and then walked down to Hamburger Hamlet for dinner. That place has lost its luster to us. The food is still decent, but it just left us wanting more. Oh well. We headed back to the hotel and got ready for Malediction Society.
The site says that admission before 10:30 is like $2 with the flyer and that it starts at 9:30 or something like that. So we got there at 10. This place is pretty close to downtown LA. Parking was really easy for a change too. But I dont know, maybe we read it wrong or something but there were peopled lined up outside waiting to get in. Looks like they dont open doors till 10. The club had real security and door people which was kinda cool I guess. We eventually got inside and proceeded up a few flights of stairs to the club. Half the place is on the roof and half of it is inside. Its a pretty big place with a decent sized dance floor, lots of booths and stools, and a couple big areas for people ot gather. Then there is the outdoor patio. The place was pretty packed, well over 300 for sure. The music was alright, though it started out with a decidely goth feel to it. Though it ended up being a more futurepop/ebm set later. It was good stuff. At about midnight they had some weird interpretive fire dance ritual thing. It was kind of lame, but people enjoyed it. Speaking of lame, Brandon ran into some of the fatpires. Nothing came of it though, so we just continued to chill. Just before 2 we ended up splitting because of checkout in the morning.
Of course we then find out checkout isn’t until noon. Oh well. We got up and packed up all of our stuff and headed out at noon. We decided to skip out on eating anywhere in town and just got gas and headed out. We made pretty good time, even though Brandon went down the wrong way when he changed freeways, and we had to circle back a mile. Could have been worse. There was a bit of a slowdown at one point but nothing too bad. We made it to Barstow and stopped at Tommy’s again. Chili-cheese heaven! They need one in Vegas already. The rest of the drive home I had my laptop on and was on the internet thanks to Brandon’s little sprint card. There was a pretty bad accident on the way. Ambulances and people on stretchers. That had the people going to California backed up quite a bit. When we finally got back to Vegas it was just after 4. Seemed like it was a lot longer, but we made good time again thanks to some open stretches after Barstow.
The trip was fun though, and it was much needed. I want to go b
ack again sometime soon and hit up Das Bunker again. That place was a blast and I regret not leaving Friday not to try and go. Malediction Society was a good choice, though I wonder what the normal turnout is.
I have some pictures to post, which I’ll hopefully do soon along with all the other trip ones I never post. Sadly there are only a few pictures from this trip. My camera is dying I think. I had a lot of them not come out right at all and it was making a stupid noise. Grrr!
